Photographer: Gene Reichert
Biography:
Gene at the age of 14 got into photography as a way of recording the things he had seen on cross country trips with his family, classmates, and friends. At the age of 15 he was bitten by the rock and roll bug and began playing bass in several Dallas / Fort Worth, TX. Punk bands. At the age of 18 he was already opening for national acts such as Agnostic Front, Foghat and The Throbs. Eventually Gene was lucky enough to to be given endorsements from Jackson guitars and GHS Strings. During this time he continued to shoot any friends bands that needed photos. After losing 3 record deals, due to the selfishness of others both inside and out of 2 seperate bands (Sybil, Rezyn Nation) and with the loss of his father in 1996, gene left the music industry and vowed never to return. In late 2004 a long time friend and fellow musician Ken Orr (of HardKnOx Entertainment) twisted Gene's arm and talked him into taking some shots of a band that he was working with (Element Eighty). Before he new what was happening Gene was shooting larger and larger shows and more and more well known acts. With the coaxing of Ken and being irritated by the substandard blurred shots that were being put in magazines and on the internet, Gene opened Dark Art Imaging in February of 2005. Gene"s mission was to make it more affordable for local bands to get great live and promotional shots without breaking their limited and almost non-existent budgets. Gene has currently worked with artists such as Drowning Pool, Opiate for the Masses, Kevin Fowler, The Genitorturers, Wednesday 13, The 69 Eyes, Ghoultown, Supe, and many others. He has also worked with such companies as Basson Sound, GuitarHeads.net, HardKnOx Entertainment, 415 Entertainment, ZeroSum records, EMI records, Scream for Me Dallas and many more music industry related companies. Gene has recently been published in HarderBeat Magazine and Bass Player Magazine. Gene has also recently won the FanArtReview.com big splash photo contest with one of his Holgate Glacier photos he took in Alaska. This is one photographer who's photos are making big names for themselves.
